Would you play the Jealousy Game?

by Sasha Manuel on June 25th, 2007

I don’t want to generalise but it sure isn’t something that’s totally unheard of. If I remember it correctly, I was in my second year in Uni when I encountered the idea and, mind you, it was a guy who told me about the idea.

Okay, before I completely lose you on this, I’m talking about making the intended victim other person — the one you’re interested injealous.

There are two known motivations why a person would resort to this:

1. To stir up some sort of reaction that can help you determine their interest in you.
2. To drive the other person away (granted that you already know that he or she is interested in you)

It may sound silly but, believe it or not, there are people who do this. Even married people do it, even just to get some form attention.

However, I can help but wonder on the extent of an individual’s effort on the matter. Will you actually consider doing it? Esp if we focus on the second motivation. I reckon it’s a pretty cruel thing to do. Will you actually resort to hurting someone you know who cares for you? (This is considering that the other person isn’t antagonising you or something.)

Personally, I just think that no one deserves to be treated like that esp when he or she is a friend. I just can’t help but ask the question, “what has he (or she) ever done to you, for you to hurt him (or her) that way?”

This is a part of dating and relationships wherein things get a way bit mucky and darn frustrating, me thinks.

What about you? Care to share your own thoughts on the matter?
