Which Do Men Prefer - Blondes or Brunettes?

Everyone has heard the old adage, “Gentlemen prefers blondes,” right?

Well, apparently that is not the case. According to a case study conducted by researchers from Florida State University, men prefer women with long, thick, dark hair. It’s biological, the brunette is seen as the healthier female, the most likely mate. Part of the study consisted of one woman in different colored wigs. The long, brown hair was the one that both men and women responded to. As explained by AOL’s Beauty and Health channel:

“The study: Fifty men and 76 women whose average age was 27 rated the attractiveness of women who were depicted in six different photographs. Three of the photos were of the same young, Caucasian woman who had the same facial expression, but her hair was altered by computer to short, medium, and long lengths. Short was really short–cut close to the head and above the ears. Medium length was just a bit below the ears. Long was at least eight inches below the shoulders.”

Men, keep your hair short. The very same study showed that women see men with short hair as more virile. My friend and I were talking about men’s hair just this last weekend. She said that she prefers short hair and I said I don’t care how long it is, as long as it’s clean. My boyfriend wears his hair short and he uses some sort of product on it when he fixes it. I like the days when he showers and leaves it alone. No sticky stuff, just soft hair.

The article that I read doesn’t mention hair color preference on men. I can tell you what I don’t like - men with colored hair, hiding their gray. Whenever I see a guy with obviously colored hair, I want to say, “Hey, have you ever heard of a guy named George Clooney?”  When it comes to graying hair, men should follow his example, but not with the Caesar thing he used to wear. That was not good.

What do you think?  Do you still believe that blondes have more fun?  Do you wear long hair or short hair?  What do you think looks best on men?  And where do you weigh in on the product debate - sticky and looks good, or natural and soft, (but best hidden under a hat when you head out to town)?

I go back and forth between being a blonde and being a brunette. I get hit on WAY more as a blonde.

I’ve been blonde, brunette, and redhead. I felt like there was a light pointed at my head when I was a blonde. Odd feeling.

I’m a natural brunette with blonde highlights, so some people call me blonde. That always throws me. When I was dating the boy, he told me he wanted to see my natural hair color, without the blonde. So I started to grow out the highlights. Now I’m trying to decide what I want to do with it. I feel ready for a change but I don’t really like the long roots I’m seeing. Perhaps I’ll go with darker highlights. Maybe red.

And now I’m just babbling. This has little to do with your post. I have to say, I much prefer short, clean cut hair on men. None of this shaggy business. I don’t think I have a preference on hair color.

Your hair is a lovely color in the pictures I’ve seen. Maybe this is the time to try something new and bold? You could always do a semi-permanent color and if you don’t like it, it washes out in a few weeks.

Please feel free to “babble” anytime. :D

I get them most compliments when my hair is dark from both men and women. I just wacked all my hair off and it doesn’t seem to have impacted men appearing interested.

I just notice them should have been the in my last post. Geez. I just was thinking about men’s hair. I use to only like short and the clean cut look. I have recently changed my opinion and as long as it is clean I am good to go. Although I do not like long thin grey hair in a pony tail. Cut that junk off! I would have to agree with Michelle on guys dying their hair too.

I’m a “dark brown, short, neat cut on a man” kinda girl myself.
Oh, that could sound dirty out of context, but you know what I mean! :)

I think for brunettes, the longer the hair, the more attention they are likely to get. I know that when I let my hair grow out, I get a lot more oglers than when it is short.

When it comes to guys, no matter how scruffy or rough the guy looks, if they have long hair, I get this feeling that they are a bit more effeminate. That and I get jealous if their hair is prettier than mine. A little long is fine, but not anywhere past the jawline.

I cut my long hair about a year and a half ago. I liked it for about a day, then really regretted the haircut. Now it’s long again and I feel much more comfortable. It feels like my protective amour or something.

I am a natural mid-blonde who dyes my hair light blonde, with really really blue eyes and I have no luck with men. I am an attractive woman according to most, but men just either dont have the guts to approach me, or they treat me like shit. Alot of them get freaked out when they realise I am actually smart and ‘dont take no bullshit’, which makes me think men only like blondes if they are dumb and live up to the stereotype. Next week, I am going very very dark. I am hoping people will take me a bit more seriously, although I am afraid that people wont find me so attractive!

Oh- and I lOVE guys with long hair, especially if its kinda blonde and sunkissed. YUM! What is it about these girls who dont like long hair?

Rachel, going very dark is a big step. I would use something semi-permanent, if I were you, that way, if you don’t like, if it doesn’t feel like you, then it will not be as hard to fix. The thing that is going to make you most attractive is your confidence and to feel that, you’ve got to feel comfortable with the way that you look.

Making a change with your hair, it is one of those fun things about being a female, isn’t it? We can get away with doing drastic things - long, short, dark, light.
