When the honeymoon is over…

by Gayla McCord on December 27th, 2006

The honeymoon period of a relationship can last as little as a few days or as many as 50 years. Many experts believe the honeymoon period will begin to fade when the communication level begins to tapper off.

When couples first get together, everything is white hot! The romance, the passion, the anticipation — and then… it happens! Reality sets in and normal, everyday life resumes.

I don’t think it’s so much about a love that’s fading as much as it is the comfort levels settling.

I’ve got several friends who are literally addicted to the “new love” feeling and bounce from relationship to relationship just to get that “new love fix.”

Personally, I’ve always been more addicted to the “comfort zone” and the “rut” stages of a relationship - when the pretending is over - the best foot is lined up with the slightly clumsier foot and there’s that comfortable balance in day-to-day living.

I guess I realized early on that I needed to look much deeper in a man than what was on the surface. Would I still be attracted to him if all that was left in our relationship was communication?

Which are you more drawn to - new love or comfortable and boring?
