What to say after a first date that doesn’t click?

by Gayla McCord on October 9th, 2007

While Evan Katz gives a lengthy and quite humorous solution to this age old, uncomfortable situation - I say go for the same old cliché - everyone’s heard it, most people expect it and it seems to work like a charm…

It’s Not You, It’s Me!

There you have it! Quick, simple, expected and get’s you totally off the hook - you may look kinda silly to the person getting dissed, but do you really care? You’re dumping them already!

Next Question?!?!

I don’t have a question, but I agree - stick with the simple solution.

I say be honest but tactful and gentle! Complement the person on the good in them so they don’t feel like they are unworthy of being loved.

I use my caller ID and avoid answering the phone! Thank goodness I’m married because I would totally suck at dating.

I guess you could just say “I’m Sorry but I don’t think I want to see you again” It is a first date after all. Hopefully there is no real attachment yet. Although that might be a little harsh. Maybe your right that is the best way to say it.

Luckily I am out of the dating game, but I remember those terrible nights of waiting by the phone. There has got to be a quicker, less painful way of rejecting these days!

Not wanting to reject anyone is what kept me from dating so much.

That might actually be a great business to get into. Making those breakup calls for people so they don’t have to. Sounds terrible, but it would be an easy way for a coward to serve up a rejection to keep people from waiting by the phone or anticipating a call back.

I agree, tell them it’s all your fault, then don’t answer the phone for a few days, LOL.

I guess it is better to hear that right away rather than it being dragged out or to hear that same “excuse” months later.

Isn’t it silly at how easy we all cower when it comes time to hurt someones feelings we don’t even care about?

It is better to not let something you know won’t work out drag on too long. I’m just glad I am married and don’t have to deal with dating anymore!
