We Quit, A Real Story

by Sasha Manuel on December 22nd, 2007

IMG_6187-2Today marks the first day that my boyfriend and I quit.

Smoking, that is.

A few months back, I resolved that I’ll quit smoking when I turn 30. Cold turkey. I shared this to him and he’s supportive about it and even said that he’ll quit smoking, too. So, there. We’re doing it together.

I have my reasons for quitting. I wasn’t looking to making him do the same thing if he doesn’t wish it but he said that he had wanted to though it was sort of difficult if he’s always with people (not just me) who are still smoking. And since he spends a lot of time with me and we like hanging out, smoking and all, this made the act a bit difficult to fulfill.

It’s funny. We were together in the last few minutes and then when midnight struck, we stopped. Leaving the cigarrette packs and lighter at the coffee shop then parted ways. Here I am at a different coffee shop, savouring the first few hours of my 30th birthday alone, er, relatively. And him with his highschool friends.

It does feel nice to have this sort of support group with this sort of thing.

Kicking off a bad habit with my boyfriend. Made it all more important.

I’m a quitter too! Hubby and I quit just over 2 years ago. I did it because both my kids have asthma and I felt like I was killing them.

The BEST advice I can give is when you have a craving, drink a quick gulp of sweet fruit juice. The immediate intro of sugar into your system will cut the cravings and minimize weight gain.

I learned that trick on http://www.whyquit.com

Good luck! I think if I can do it, anyone can. I smoked for 19 years.

Yay! :) It’s time to buy candies for some “fillers!” :) My dad quit smoking with my mom’s nonstop support. :) I wish you two the best! :)
