Ways to End a Bad Date

by Gayla McCord on September 12th, 2007

1. Make the plan for the date short. First dates should last no longer then an hour at most. Date ideas for less then an hour: a cup of coffee, a walk in the park, or a quick drink. By making this type of plan from the start, you’ll not find yourself in a jam.

2. Tell him you need to be somewhere. It doesn’t have to be a big deal like your mom’s in the hospital. You can say you’re meeting up with some friends to celebrate a birthday or a promotion. You should make this clear before the date even takes place or at most a few minutes into the date. This is a great boundary to lay before even dipping your toes in that pool for testing.

3. Say NO to desert. If you’ve had enough of the date, don’t agree to more. Agreeing to have desert is a clear indication that you’d like this date to last longer.

4. Not saying you’ll call. If you don’t tell your date you’ll call, then they’ll hopefully get the hint and not call you either. It’s perfectly ok to just say you wish him the best and it was nice meeting him.

5. A handshake. The perfect indication that there will not be another date. No need to get too intimate with a hug or a kiss if you don’t like him.

Incorporation one or more of the tips listed above should do the trick in making sure there’s not a second date or even reason to contemplate one.
