Ways On How To Get Over it

by Sasha Manuel on August 27th, 2006

There are several ways on how you can get over the feeling. I don’t know them all since there’s always a different way for each person so the ones I’m listing won’t apply to all. I only included the ones I’ve, somehow, tried and proven effective. Hahaha.

  • Wait it out.

Let yourself feel it but without doing anything about it. This requires a certain amount of restraint and control. You have to be lucid. You begin to rationalise the emotion and situation and try to be objective. Treat it as if it’s just one of your work projects that encountered a kink and you’ve got to work through it. It will go away.

  • Break the habit.

Give yourself 3 weeks to break the habit. View your feelings like you would a habit. This involves detaching yourself from the source. Remove yourself from anything that can remind you of the other person. Don’t talk about it. Don’t think about it. Clam up during the said period and you’ll break the sucker. Hehehe.

  • Exposure Therapy.

It’s what I’d like to call, The Masochist Way. Hehehe. You continue to expose yourself to the source. It’s quite similar to shock treatment. You feed and feed the emotion until it implodes. But a word of caution, if you’re not strong enough, this will mess you up completely. I suggest that you take careful steps if you decide to proceed.

  • Get back in the game.

Go on your “break up adventures” and get yourself lost in it. This is the most fun and dangerous of the lot. Why? Accidents can happen. There is a higher risk in doubling your problem with added man or woman troubles. You can get pregnant or acquire a disease. You might fall for the next man/woman too fast and get your heart broken all over again. It can cause you to be callous or overly cynical about the whole thing that you might end up with an unhealthy outlook about the whole love and dating scene.

On a parting note, I just want you guys to remember that however you wish to go about getting over the feeling, one fact remains — you will get over it. You simply have to make the decision, that’s all.

    Hey Sasha,

Good list. Yep, some of them worked for me, too. But it was a looong time ago.

Anyway, if you don’t mind, please expound on “Exposure Theraphy”. How did it go for you? Just intrigued coz you said “it can mess you up”! So either you (A) did it with flying colors, or (B) you totally wrecked. What the … :)

No offense meant of course. Just asking …

    Pis mate!

    Thanks, Kharen. :)

So, I’m limited to a multiple choice scenario? Heehee. Or do you want me to give a more concrete example? ;)

Let’s just say I’m neither. I’m caught between cocktails and a night cap. I’m enjoying my martini — shaken AND stirred. And don’t forget the olives! Hahaha.

    No worries. None taken. ;)

Good answer!! I like people who think outside of the box.

Btw, can I have a sparkling red myself?? Hehe. Thanks ;-)

    Sure thing, sweetie. :)

Let’s raise our glasses. I’ll toast to your finding a great man that has taken you away from the dating scene and to my own interesting experiences as I continue a life in it. ;)
