Counseling. Sounds like she still hasn’t given up the fantasy of her first marriage working out. Until she does she’s not available to her current boyfriend. A relationship enrichment course might be effective for them to do together to see if they are even on the same page.

I agree with your recommendation. He needs to forget this relationship. If he adamantly follows through and somehow makes it work, he won’t be happy. There are far too many factors that can make one unhappy than happy in this relationship.
As it happens in any relationship, there could be some days when he is in a lousy mood; on those days a slight bit of negativism from the girl can spark off a new dimension of misery in the relationship. One needs to plan with the worst case scenario.
It is wise to step back right now and think rationally on all these aspects. It is important not to have any regrets in life.
I hope your friend listens to this and uses his mind rather than his heart while making a final decision.
