Most romantic movie of all time
While doing a little blog search on the term “romantic” for a bit of inspiration on my writings for today, I got to thinking about movies - date movies or just those good old - tear jerking movies that make you wish you’d purchased stock in Kleenex and Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream - because you go through so much of both during one viewing.
The one movie that stands out in my mind as being the absolute most romantic movie I’ve ever seen is The Notebook.
Plot Synopsis via Amazon: The movie focuses on an old man reading a story to an old woman in a nursing home. The story he reads follows two young lovers named Allie Hamilton and Noah Calhoun, who meet one evening at a carnival. But they are separated by Allie’s parents who dissaprove of Noah’s unwealthy family, and move Allie away. After waiting for Noah to write her for several years, Allie meets and gets engaged to a handsome young soldier named Lon. Allie, then, with her love for Noah still alive, stops by Noah’s 200-year-old home that he restored for her, “to see if he’s okay”. It is evident that they still have feelings for each other, and Allie has to choose between her fiance and her first love.
One way I could always tell if a man would walk through fire for me when dating was how willing they were to endure one full length romantic chick flick with me.
What are some of the best romantic chick flicks you can think of?

You hit the nail on the head with The Notebook. I love that movie. I cried reading the book, cried watching the movie the first time, and cried watching it the second time with my boyfriend who was like “Calm down woman.” :) I was a blithering mess and I almost didn’t watch the movie since I read the book in college and thought there was NO WAY they did it justice, but they did I’m proud of them.
Other good romantic movies
-The Wedding Planner (I will always like that movie)
-High Fidelity (Great movie)
-Untamed Heart (That is from my christian slater obession, but still good)
-Benny and Joon
-Bed of Roses (christian slater again)
-Ever After (already mentioned in above comment, but good)
-10 Things I Hate About You
And my most fave that I almost forgot Never Been Kissed….Love it.

Oh wow you gals brought up some good ones.
I bet I’ve seen untamed heart 50 times - same for bed of roses. I’m a BIG Christian Slater fan.
Not a romantic movies - but have you seen windtalkers? *sighs* He’s awesome in that too!
How to lose a guy - at least 20
Another one I LOVE is Little Black Book. I’ve seen it a couple of times recently and it’s such a good movie - such a nice spin on selfless love.
I’ve never seen 10 things I hate about you though. I might have to get that one.

10 Things I Hate About you was good, but even when it was out, played to the teeny crowd. I was in college when it was out, but I loved it and it made me a huge Heath Ledger fan. I also like his Knights Tale movie.
Haven’t seen Windtalkers. I was worried that it wouldn’t be that good. Isn’t Nicholas Cage in it too. He isn’t my fave actor. Caught a bit of the movie Pursued this weekend CS is in it, wasn’t good at all, but I still liked hearing his voice. :D

I saw a Little Black Book once but it left a sour taste. Not that it wasn’t a good movie because it was. I guess you can say I prefer the heroine to be the good guy, if you know what I mean. :)
I liked 10 things because Heath Ledger and Julia Stiles were in it. I like the teeny bopper movies.
It’s funny cuz the movie and book, The Notebook, didn’t move me to tears even when most of the people who recommended it said it would. I reckon something’s wrong with me. Hahaha.
I also forgot to mention, Reality Bites. I love the soundtrack, too! :)

Reality Bites is a good movie, but depressing, and I knew better than to watch it when I was getting ready to graduate college and was utterly depressed cause what was I gonna do. I watched it though and cried, even though I’d seen it before and no tears, and I was depressed for the rest of the day.

What depressed you about the movie is the issue about responsibilities after graduation or about love or relationships?
If it’s the former, then yea, I have to agree with you. It does whack you with the truth about making a difference in the world using what talents or skill you have. “The world doesn’t owe you anything” kind of mentality that you have to have. :)

I wasn’t really dating much at the time so it was the responsibilities after graduation, which sometimes out played the relationship part, even when I first saw the movie.

At least you got your priorities straight. Uh, well — somehow. :)
At least, I hope that if you decide to see the movie again, it wouldn’t depress you as much since graduation is over and done with and you’re well-covered in the relationship part. ;)

As I said, good movie, but it is still depressing no matter what. ;)

Yes The Notebook is great and I kinda liked Walk the Line (the Johnny Cash story). But there are amny tear jerkers…..ahhhh how nice to be in love.

Not meaning to derail this thread (well it is a love story of sorts) however I just heard that the Da Vinci Code’ publisher has won the High Court case in which it was claimed there was infringement of copyright rules.

I didn’t know that Da Vinci Code went to court. Hmmm. On the subject of derailing the thread, perhaps we can say that this movie has a bit of romance in it? ;)

They always throw in a bit of mush dn’t they….lol. There’s always a leading man or woman and some fitting mate…..makes it a bit more interesting after all isn’t that what life’s all about? I’ve read the book and will go see the movie when all the fuss dies down a bit i guess..

Yea, a crowded cinema isn’t my idea of a good movie experience.
I’ve read the book, too, but found it wanting. I prefer the book “The Rule of Four” which happens to fall under the same category. But I’m still keeping an open mind by considering to read “Angels and Demons”. ;)

[...] When Gayla did Most romantic movie of all time, it got me to thinking about all the films that I’ve loved over the years. I’ve always been a sucker for romantic comedies and I have a growing collection of DVDs to show for it. Teeheehee. [...]

I would say Dirty Dancing - a true classic.

or Gone with the Wind - it is not an easy one and does not have the typical cheesy happy end.

Yeah, so I just had to sit through this movie a few days ago. It’s not a horrible movie, but I fail to see why this is the ultimate girl movie. It seems more like a movie for married couples or something. The last thing I want to think about in a new relationship is being old together.
