It’s Moot: Technology Bridges the Gap

by Sasha Manuel on May 6th, 2007

So now I’m taking the trip I was talking about a while ago. And one thing I’m learning is that technology is helping me stay in touch.

I’m not sure if SMS is popular where you are. But being able to send short (but sweet) messages to a significant other while on the road is something I really enjoy. It’s not as good as face-to-face contact, but it’s better than nothing I guess. It’s a bit frustrating that talking to him for an hour or so over a cell phone is still pretty expensive for me. :(

At least this is temporary; I believe that the prospects for a long-distance relationship aren’t that great. Nothing beats getting to hold hands, and talking to someone in person while walking through our favorite mall. Trying to maintain a relationship (whether “official” or not) through IM, email, or the cell phone is a long, yet ultimately inevitable, slide towards a final goodbye.

What do you think? Can a long-distance relationship work? Or are they all doomed to fail? And if you found yourself in such a commitment, what would you do?

1 opinion for It’s Moot: Technology Bridges the Gap

I’ve had some friends in long distance relationship and the failure rate is just so much higher.

However if one is stuck in a long distance relationship and has little choice, my only advice is try to be understanding to each other’s schedule since both can live in different environment and even timezone.
