It’s All About Love

by Gayla McCord on February 14th, 2006

valentine teddybearI’ve heard it many times, “What am I going to get for my wife this year?” “it’s impossible to get a reservation at Le Bernardin (or whatever the fancy restaurant you plan on taking your date to.” And for those who don’t have dates, Valentine’s Day sucks.

It’s this time of the year again. Those who have dates are scratching heads trying to figure out where to eat without breaking the bank. Those who don’t have valentines are getting all pissed off at whoever invented this holiday. But, aren’t we all forgetting something?

After all, it’s a holiday for all of us to remember what love is. This wonderful day has since been unfortunately twisted into commercialized money making engine for the retailers to make some quick cash on the candies and shining rocks.

Boys and gals, it’s OK if you don’t have that fancy dinner at a 5 star restaurant. It is OK if you don’t have fancy gifts for each other. It’s a day for both of you to remember how you first fell in love, how you kissed each other for the first time; how you created the most precious wonderful kids together; how you have been holding hands for all these years going through all the ups and downs, and how you still love each other so very much… So let’s not lose the sight here while fighting for that reservation at Le Bernardin. After all, it’s a day about love!

I still have the little Valentine teddy bear my mother gave me many years ago. I was going through my teenager heartache and my mother gave me that teddy bear and wished me a happy Valentine’s Day. It meant so much to me because I could feel how much my mother loves me. So if you don’t have a valentine today, show your love to those people whom you care deeply. A phone call, a little online card, a bone shaped toy or a bag of treats would mean a lot to your mom, dad, sisters, brothers, friends, dogs, cats, birds, etc…

After all, it’s a day about love!
