I Kissed Dating Goodbye

by Sasha Manuel on April 29th, 2006

IKDGI Kissed Dating Goodbye by Joshua Harris

I read this book around 6 years ago. It was heavily popularised by the True Love Waits movement in the Christian community at that time.

I’m not aware if such movement still exists now but I am hoping it still does.

The book helped in establishing and reinforcing several principles in how I view relationships. It gave me a positive outlook on how I should conduct my “lovelife”.

The basically tells the author’s story on how he struggled with the concept of dating, which was prevalent in the American society.

IKDG StudyThere is also a Study Guide available if readers want to learn more on how it can be applied in their own lives.

I know that it may not be entirely the same case here in my country, though, some are also already being practised but most are still heavily influenced by our conservative customs and traditions. And as the country continue its progress to absorbing western culture, particularly American, I have no doubt that we are heading that direction, too.

Being a christian in this society will prove trying. The book helps you find a direction and a sort of foundation on how you can deal with it. And that’s one thing I really appreciate about the book because I believe that being a christian doesn’t really automatically mean you are limited or condemned to a life of a hermit. It gave a sort of balance to everything.

It doesn’t offer a formula that can solve the dating dilemma that we all experience but it will provide a choice. That alone is a good thing.

BMGIt’s followed up with his book, Boy Meets Girl, where he relayed his love story after taking that road. In the updated version of this book, it offers a new material like the 8 Great Courtship Conversations.

I know I may not have kissed dating goodbye but like I said, I have formed steady beliefs about the whole thing and these books among others contributed to that.

These two books are uplifting. They affirmed that the gift of love is not only freely given but is also a definite sign of God’s grace. I found that love with rules can be bearable and there can be happy endings after all.

I heard of it. I think I started reading it, but put it down cause it didn’t keep my interest. Not the subject matter just the writing style. It wasn’t for me. Plus there were other reasons I didn’t read it that I won’t go into.

I’ve heard of this book. In fact, the singles group at my church read it at one point. To be honest, the book scared me in the level of commitment it was asking for. I’ve circled around actually reading it for quite a while. We’ll see…

I couldn’t put it down, the best relationship book I’ve read by far.

I’m now courting a wonderful Christian young lady.

[...] I’m still at the first few pages (I’m done with the first part!) but it’s been interesting so far. His words have somehow reinforced all the things I’ve known (from reading Joshua Harris books and the like plus all the basic foundations that my faith has instilled in me) and it’s great to be reminded and check my “progress”, if you know what I mean. I can’t wait to finish it. (I’ll let you know when I do!) [...]

What a great book! It really helps me check my views towards dating & relationship. Especially, in the portion of the book “guard your heart” form the pollutants of infatuation, lust & self-pity. I thanked God for using the author to check me. May God bless his ministry more & more. Thanks! ;)
