Fox Stations Unveil Multiplatform Dating Business

by Gayla McCord on September 20th, 2006

Fox Television Stations plans to make dating a multiplatform business that will attract viewers to a program titled “My Dating Place” and drive traffic to stations’ Web sites by bringing together people in their hometowns.

The show, which will air five nights a week, will launch in Phoenix on Fox-owned MyNetworkTV station KUTP-TV. After a shake-out, the show will roll out to other Fox-owned stations.

“My Dating Place” was created and will be executive produced by John Terenzio, whose experience includes network news, cable sports and syndication. Mr. Terenzio has formed Tri-American Productions to produce this show and to offer consulting, production and programming services with traditional and new media applications, but he also will continue to executive produce “Judge Joe Brown” for Paramount Domestic Television.

Mr. Terenzio said, “Until now, dating shows have been national in nature and more about showmanship than function. However, today’s audience is aggressively seeking to fully participate in content and do more than just cast a vote or buy a product. ‘My Dating Place’ is a way for viewers in every community to be served with a positive, interactive television experience.”

The article doesn’t give any details as to whether the show will be similar to 5th Wheel, Next or even Average Joe - but it would be an interesting concept for local stations to focus on bringing local singles together.

If anyone out there knows more about Fox’s plans to focus on local singles and has some detail to provide, I’m very interested in following this story - please keep me posted :)
