Dating website for Catholics
The internet has proved a godsend for singles looking to hook up but it can’t always cater for those with specific needs.
Now unmarried Catholics looking for love can take their chances on a special dating website that has even got the blessing of the church.
Even the faithful get lonely. But now a special website called Catholic Matchmaker aims to bring together the devout.
“I think Catholics have a culture the faith and the religion whether they go to church or not that they want to find another Catholic,” says Glen Omvig, site developer.
“We needed to share that particular part of our lives because I needed to bring my children up Catholic,” says Clare Omvig, who also developed the site.
Glen and Clare met via an international Catholic matchmaking site eight years ago. And since then their life has been on the up, with children Benedict, Katie and Tim filling their home. So now they are starting their own site in New Zealand.
The Catholic faith prohibits sex before marriage and the site is not your typical internet dating site.
“We are inviting mentor couples to come across and join our site so they are there. Sometimes it’s easier to talk somebody else’s parents than it is to talk to your own,” says Clare.
The site has the blessing of the Catholic Church. It will also receive its traditional tithe, 10% of all profits.
The site will be officially launched on the feast of St Rafael, patron saint of singles and happy meetings, and will cost just under $15 a month to join.
